The Federal Reserve was led by American economist Ben Shalom Bernanke, who was born on December 13, 1953, from 2006 to 2014.

After leaving the Fed, he was appointed a distinguished fellow at the Brookings Institution. For leading the Federal Reserve’s response to the financial crisis of the late 2000s while serving as chairman, Bernanke received the 2009 Time Person of the Year award.

Before becoming the head of the Federal Reserve, Bernanke was a tenured professor at Princeton University, where he supervised the economics division from 1996 until September 2002, when he took a leave of absence from his official responsibilities.

Together with Douglas Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig, Bernanke received the 2022 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences “for research on banks and financial crises.”
