It was first hosted yearly at Scotland’s Prestwick Golf Club after being founded in 1860. Later, the location alternated among a small number of British seaside links golf courses. The R&A is in charge of planning it.
The Open is one of the four major golf competitions for men, the others being the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, and the Master’s Tournament.
Since the PGA Championship’s May 2019 date change, the Open has become the year’s fourth and last major competition. In mid-July, it takes place.
The reason it is called The Open is that both professional and amateur golfers are theoretically welcome to participate.
In reality, the present competition is a professional match in which a select group of elite amateurs also compete, either by invitation or qualification.
Due to the competition’s success, there are now several open golf competitions held all over the world.
The 149th Open was won by Collin Morikawa, the reigning champion, at Sandwich, England’s Royal St. George’s Golf Club with a score of 265.
