In Round 3, Ankalaev was forced to move from southpaw to orthodox, but Blachowicz’s leg kicks also hurt Ankalaev’s left leg.

In the final two rounds, Ankalaev successfully turned the tide. In rounds four and five, Ankalaev got early takedowns, trapping Blachowicz and landing strikes. Ankalaev’s influence was more severe in the fifth round than it was in the fourth.

Surprisingly, one judge gave the fight to Blachowicz while another declared Ankalaev the winner. The fight was declared dead even by the final judge, resulting in a split draw. Blachowicz received Round 1 from all three judges. In Round 3, only Judge Derek Cleary dissented, awarding the round to Ankalaev. In Round 5, Judge Sal D’Amato scored Ankalaev 10-8, ending in a tie.
