Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro Carlos Sainz Jr. (Spanish pronunciation: [kalos sajn ake e kasto] (listen)) is a Spanish racing driver who currently drives for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One.

He is the son of Carlos Sainz, a two-time World Rally Champion, and the nephew of rally driver Antonio Sainz.

Sainz raced for Carlin in the British and European Formula 3 championships in 2012. He won the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 title while racing for DAMS before joining Toro Rosso in F1.

Sainz’s contract with Red Bull Racing came to an end, and he joined McLaren for the 2019 season.

Sainz won his first Formula One podium with a third-place result at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Sainz will join Ferrari at the end of the 2020 season.

Born in Madrid, Sainz started his career in karting.

In 2008, he won the Asia-Pacific KF3 title and finished second in the Spanish Championship.

In 2009, he won the prestigious Junior Monaco Kart Cup and finished second in the European KF3 Championship.

Why did Ferrari pick Carlos Sainz?

Sainz has had a string of outstanding races in recent years, where he regularly gets the best possible performance from the car, even in challenging conditions.

Last year’s podium in Brazil was a case in point.

It would have been only natural if he had been swiftly devoured by the cars on newer rubber directly behind him as the race was restarted on old tires.

But he aced it, not just by maintaining his usual excellent pace in low-grip conditions, but also by remaining completely error-free and not giving his pursuers a chink of daylight.
