Mary Alice Smith was an award-winning film, television and stage actress known for her roles as Leticia Bostic and Effie Williams in A Different World and Sparkle respectively.
She has featured in other movies like The Education of Sonny Carson, Just an Old Sweet, Lawman Without a Gun and others. Alice retired from active acting in the year 2005. Prior to her retirement, she was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2000.
Mary Alice died at her home in New York City on July 27, 2022. According to sources, she died of natural causes.
