Nicolas Cage, an American actor best known for his roles in high-profile summer blockbusters and action movies, was born Nicholas Kim Coppola on January 7, 1964, in Long Beach, California.

Nicholas Cage is his real name. He received an Oscar for his work in the movie Leaving Las Vegas (1995).

He played the lead in Valley Girl (1983), a lighthearted love story about suburban punk rockers. In 1984, Cage made appearances in Coppola’s The Cotton Club, Racing with the Moon, and Birdy as a zealous proponent of the Stanislavsky acting method.

Why did Nic Cage change his name?

Nick Cage formerly known as Nicolas Kim Coppola asserts that he officially changed his name to Cage in honor of two people who served as his main sources of inspiration: the avant-garde musician John Cage and the Marvel superhero Luke “Powerman” Cage.

This makes a lot of sense considering the breadth of Cage’s career and the fact that he has been in both quirky films like Vampire’s Kiss and Pig and high-octane action films like Face/Off and The Rock.
