As a freshman, Alonso participated in football and lacrosse before deciding to concentrate just on baseball. Peter Alonso was the third baseman for the baseball squad.

Alonso attended the University of Florida, where he played first base for the Florida Gators throughout his college baseball career. In Alonso first year, he received the All-Southeastern Conference honor. Pter Alonso participated in college baseball’s summer leagues in 2014 with the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League and in 2015 with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
