Sir Andrew John Strauss was born on 2 March 1977 in England. He is an English cricket administrator and former player.

He was formerly the Director of Cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Furthermore played county cricket for Middlesex, and captained the England national team in all formats of the game.

Sir Andrew John Strauss is a left-handed opening batsman, he favoured scoring off the back foot, mostly playing cut and pull shots.

He is known for his fielding strength in the covers. Strauss was promoted to Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2011.

He has conferred the honorary doctorate of DCL upon him in 2011.

Strauss has written several books on his professional career. Strauss is currently the President of the Primary Club Juniors. This is a charity which helps fund blind cricket.

Why is Andrew Strauss sir?

Strauss was knighted in the resignation honours in September 2019. When a person has given this title the word “sir” is added to their name.

His wife, Ruth, contracted a rare form of lung cancer and died in 2018.

A charity, the Ruth Strauss Foundation, was set up in her honour. The Lord’s Test became the centre point of a fundraising campaign.
