In an effort to liberate her, the Biden administration has been negotiating with Russia. In order to secure the release of Griner and another American, the former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, the United States “placed a considerable offering on the table weeks ago,” according to Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on July 27.
Regardless of Griner’s plea, experts have concluded that a conviction would almost certainly result from her trial. Her attorneys stated that they thought the judge would be more forgiving as a result of her guilty plea.
However, experts indicated that Griner’s best chance for a speedy release to the United States is that the Biden administration finds a method to exchange her for a prominent Russian who is being held by the United States.
