John Lee Hancock is the director of the 2013 biographical drama Saving Mr. Banks, which Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith wrote the screenplay for. Emma Thompson plays author P in the movie, which is centered on the making of the 1964 movie Mary Poppins.

Walt Disney, the film producer, is portrayed by L. Travers and Tom Hanks, with Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, Colin Farrell, Ruth Wilson, and B.J. Novak.

Saving Mr. Banks, which takes its name from the father in Travers’s story, tells the story of the author’s traumatic beginnings in rural Queensland in 1906 and the two weeks of negotiations that took place in Los Angeles in 1961 when Disney tried to acquire the rights to her books for the big screen.

Saving Mr. Banks was first created by Essential Media Entertainment and BBC Films as an independent production, up until 2011, when producer Alison Owen contacted Walt Disney Pictures to request permission to use copyrighted components.

Disney was intrigued by the subject matter of the movie, so the studio bought the screenplay and made the movie.

The movie was almost entirely filmed in Southern California, primarily at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, where the majority of the narrative takes place. Principal photography began the following year in September and ended in November.

On October 20, 2013, Saving Mr. Banks had its world premiere at the London Film Festival. On November 29 of the same year, it was released theatrically in the UK, and on December 13 in North America.

Positive reviews were given to it, praising the acting, screenplay, and musical composition. In addition to receiving nods for Best Actress at the BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Critics’ Choice Awards for Thompson’s performance, Thomas Newman received a nomination for Best Original Score at the Academy Awards.

The film was a critical and financial success, earning $118 million at the global box office, and was voted one of the top 10 movies of 2013 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
