Charles didn’t receive instruction at the family’s palace house; he went to school instead. He was the first heir apparent to receive a college education when he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1970 from the University of Cambridge.
He subsequently received a Master of Arts from Cambridge.
After spending a term at the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth, where he picked up the Welsh language, Elizabeth bestowed upon her eldest son the regal titles of Prince of Wales and other titles in 1969.
Charles was seated in the United Kingdom’s House of Lords, the upper house of parliament, two years later.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Charles then spent the following few years serving in both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
Lady Diana Spencer, who would later become the princess of Wales, wed Charles in 1981. William and Harry, the couple’s two boys, are second and sixth in line to the throne, respectively.
Why is it King Charles III?
Charles has been elevated to the throne as King Charles III, a decision he made totally on his own. Like his loving mother Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away, he has chosen to go by his Christian name.
The new king or queen may have chosen George, who would have become King George VII, as has been the custom for many kings.
