Along with his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset, he is best known as a member of the hip-hop and trap music group Migos. Kirshnik Khari Ball was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in Gwinnett County, near Atlanta. His mother raised him, along with family members Quavo and Offset.

Takeoff began rapping in 2008, alongside family members Quavo and Offset. The group was originally known as Polo Club, but they later changed their name to Migos. On August 25, 2011, the group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season. On June 1, 2012, they released the mixtape No Label. After the single “Versace” by Migos was released in 2013, the group first gained notoriety. Drake, a Canadian rapper, remixed the song, which reached its highest point on the Hot 100 Billboard chart and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 99. Chris Brown and Young Thug made guest appearances on their first studio album, Yung Rich Nation, which was produced by Zaytoven and Murda Beatz and featured Chris Brown and Young Thug as well. The album’s peak on the Billboard 200 chart was position 17.
