William Chepkut Chirchir was the Ainabkoi constituency’s most recent member of parliament.
William was well-liked by the people in his district. He was photographed sitting down and speaking with people of his constituency at one point. He also led the Jerusalema dance challenge at a wedding on another occasion. He also attended DP Ruto’s daughter June Ruto’s wedding to Nigerian spouse Alexander Ezenagu.
In 2017, he expressed his intention to run for the Ainabkoi constituency parliamentary seat against then-MP Samuel Chepkonga. He ran for the seat on the Jubilee party ticket during nominations. He won the nominations, but the results were contested, necessitating a new election. He was beaten by 90 votes in the second round. Nonetheless, he ran for the seat as an independent and won. He ran for this seat in the previous general election in 2013 but lost.
William was an MP as well as the deputy chairman of the Special Funds Accounts Committee and a member of the Appointments Committee. He had a high role in the president’s office from 1997 until 2003. He was the personal assistant/private secretary to Nicholas Biwott, a key minister under the KANU regime.
