Bogaerts was found by Boston Red Sox scout, Mike Lord when he was 16 years old, In 2009. Bogaerts played for Lord, after missing two weeks of baseball, which was due to him having chicken pox, and Lord suggested him to Craig Shipley, the Red Sox’s vice president of international scouting. Shipley took a plane to Aruba, so he could see Bogaerts play, and he inked a deal with the Red Sox that included a $410,000 signing bonus.
