Prigozhin was sometimes referred to as “Putin’s chef” since he owned cafes and catering enterprises that worked for the Kremlin. Prigozhin, a former Soviet prisoner, was in head of a network of powerful firms, including the Wagner private military organization, which received government support from Russia, and three businesses accused of meddling with the 2016 and 2018 US elections.
Bellingcat, The Insider, and Der Spiegel investigated Prigozhin’s operations in 2022 and discovered that they “are tightly integrated with Russia’s Defence Ministry and its intelligence arm, the GRU.”
