Her father was imprisoned when Young M.A was one and was not released until she was eleven, a period of approximately ten years. Young M.A grew close to her brother, Kenneth Ramos, and her mother in the absence of her father. Marrero’s mother decided to relocate to Chesterfield, Virginia when Young M.A was seven years old because it offered better school facilities and kept her children away from the violence of East New York. Young M.A began playing tackle football in Virginia.
