Schofield was well-known for his adaptability, athleticism, and shooting proficiency while playing basketball for the University of Tennessee. From 2015 until 2019, he was a forward for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Schofield registered for the 2019 NBA Draft and the Philadelphia 76ers took him with the 42nd overall pick. On draft night, he was subsequently dealt to the Washington Wizards.
In July, he agreed to a three-year, $4.3 million deal with the Wizards. In August, Schofield started promoting Hulu Sports. The Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League hired Schofield. He was the first Wizards player to play on December 4 for both the Go-Go and the Wizards in the same game.
In the 2019–2020 season, Schofield made his NBA debut for the Wizards, where he remained until 2021. Schofield and the Magic came to a new two-year agreement on July 22, 2022.
