Japanese businessman and current president of Toyota Motor Corporation Akio Toyoda was born on May 3, 1956. He is the great-grandson of Japanese industrialist Sakichi Toyoda and the grandson of Kiichiro Toyoda, the father of Toyota Motors, and Shinshichi Iida, the father of Takashimaya Department Stores.

When Katsuaki Watanabe was demoted to Vice-Chairman following the quality control crisis, Akio Toyoda was the leading candidate to take over the family business. After completing his legal studies at Keio University in Japan, Toyoda earned a master’s degree in finance from Babson College in Massachusetts. In 1984, he joined the family business.
