A lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Justice Moses Aheto, claims Akufo-Addo government is “heavily equipping” its vigilante groups with ammunitions, far “more sophisticated than what the regular security agencies” are using.
According to him, he had earlier before the broadcast of Joy News “Militia in the heart of the nation” documentary, stated on Radio Gold that the government is training vigilante groups purposely for its own activities.
A Joy News investigative piece put together by ace journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, revealed the training of a group allegedly affiliated to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Osu Castle.
The group called De-Eye allegedly gives training to men and women to provide security and other services according to their website; which according to checks is currently inactive.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s “Alhaji and Alhaji” programme, Dr. Moses Aheto asserted the NPP government deliberately asked its opponent [NDC] to lay down their arms while the ruling government heavily equips its vigilante groups.
“Regarding the militia training at Osu Castle, remember on the 23rd February on this same program, I made it clear that actually the government is training vigilante groups purposely for their own activities and for that matter they are coming back to us and asking their opponent to lay down their arms while they are heavily equipping their vigilante groups”.
“I even also made it clear that what I know at first hand, some of them are being given ammunitions or weapons that are even more sophisticated than what the regular security agencies are using. There is no doubt…the only problem is that we behave so hypocritical in our nation and for that matter even what is true is made to be the lie and the lie becomes the truth”, he insisted.
