The Gabonese Football Federation has lost its president in the person of Alain da Costa, who took the position in the year 2013. Upon his death, president Pierre Alain Mounguengui took over. Alain da Costa before becoming the president of Gabon was well-known as the coach of the Gabon National team from the year 1994 to the year 1997. His first national coaching role commenced as the under-17 national team’s coach which spanned from the year 1987 to the year 1989.

Alain da Costa’s most impressive performance as a national teams coach for the Gabon side was when he led the team to the quarterfinals stage in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations. In the year 2000, Alain da Costa then assumed his coaching position with the Gabonese Pantheres. Even though he did not achieve that much height, Alain da Costa inspired young and aspiring coach career interests. Alain da Costa passed away at the age of 87.
