Alan White was born on June 14, 1949, and passed away on May 26, 2022. He was a lyricist and drummer best known for his work with the progressive rock band Yes.

He joined Yes in 1972 as a replacement drummer for Bill Bruford, the band’s original drummer. After the death of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, White became the band’s longest-serving member.

White began playing the drums at the age of 12 and joined his first band, the Downbeats, a year later. John Lennon’s career took off after seeing another White band, prog rockers Griffin, perform.

After seeing a performance by another White band, Billy Fury’s backing band, he was chosen as the drummer for the Plastic Ono Band.

Alan White died after a brief illness, according to his wife Gigi. “Alan White, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on May 26, 2022, at the age of 72, at his Seattle-area home, after a brief illness,”

“Throughout his life and six-decade career, Alan was many things to many people: a certified rock star to fans all over the world; a bandmate to a select few; and a gentleman and friend to everyone who met him.”
