Following the death of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, White became the band’s longest-serving member.
After being invited to play at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival, followed by a show at the Lyceum Ballroom, White joined John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band in 1969.
How did Alan White (Yes drummer) die?
White died on May 26, 2022, at the age of 72, at his home in Newcastle, after a brief illness. He’d announced three days before that he’d be missing the Close to the Edge 50th anniversary tour due to health issues.
White was born in the English village of Pelton, County Durham. His father worked as a clerk, a shopkeeper, a lorry and bus driver, and he also played the piano in local pubs.
His grandfather was a pianist, and his uncle drummed in local dance bands.
He attended a technical school before moving to the nearby town of Ferryhill at the age of seven, where he spent the rest of his childhood.
