Australian rules football coach Alastair Clarkson, is a former player and the current head coach of the North Melbourne Football Club.

Clarkson was chosen by the Melbourne Football Club in the first round, where he made his debut in 1996. He averaged 23.5 disposals per game in his 22 games that season, which was a solid showing. He participated in 41 games with the Demons in 1997, plus an extra 19 games, before quitting at the end of the season.

Clarkson started his coaching career with Werribee in the VFL Prior to taking on posts at St. Kilda and Central District, where he won the Premiership in 2001. He was appointed midfield coach and forward coach at Port Adelaide in 2003 and 2004, respectively.

Clarkson received his first senior AFL coaching post with the Hawthorn Football Club for the 2005 season after the Hawks engaged him to manage their rebuilding attempt.
