Andrew Fletcher, keyboardist, manager, spokesperson and founding member of British electronic band Depeche Mode, died at the age of 60. A statement issued by the band on social media said:
“We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.”
Fletcher was born in Nottingham in 1961 and at the age of two, they relocated to Basildon in the late 1970s, when he joined Martin Gore and Vince Clarke to form the band Composition Of Sound.
They changed their name to Depeche Mode after enlisting singer Dave Gahan, and the group went on to have a string of early 1980s chart successes.
