The University of Vienna awarded Anton Zeilinger his doctorate in 1971. Anton was born in Austria in 1945. Before beginning his tenure as Chair of the Physics Department at the University of Vienna in 1999, Anton served on the faculties of the Technical University of Vienna and the University of Innsbruck. Zeilinger studies the theoretical underpinnings of quantum mechanics. Along with Daniel Greenberger and Michael Horne, he discovered brand-new, counterintuitive characteristics of three- and four-particle states.
Anton Zeilinger and his team were the first to realize those in the experiment. This paved the way for multi-particle interference and multi-particle quantum correlations to flourish. Anton performed the first quantum teleportation of an independent qubit using methods developed there. Following this was the realization of entanglement swapping, a fascinating concept in which an entangled state is teleported. This work was followed by numerous tests of Bell’s inequalities, including the Cosmic Bell Test. Other fundamental experiments involved Leggett’s nonlocal realistic theories, tests of quantum contextuality in Kochen-Specker experiments, and experiments on nonlocal Schrödinger steering with entangled states.
