On November 24, 2021, Jeremy Sides, a civilian scuba diver, explored a lake close to the location of the party that the youngsters had attended. Although Sides discovered a sunken car, it wasn’t Foster’s Grand Am.
On November 30, Sides discovered a vehicle in the CalfKiller River, close to Highway 84, thirteen feet below the surface utilizing sonar technology. However, Sides ran out of light.
Sides went back to the car he had seen in the river the day after, on December 1, 2021, and dove to film the car. It was determined that Foster’s Grand Am was the owner of the license plate.
He called White Country Sheriff Steve Page to inform him of his find and to get confirmation that the vehicle was Foster’s and contained two human remains. Foster and Bechtel’s remains, discovered in the car after being lost for 21 years, were eventually determined to be theirs.
