Gregory Andrews, the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana is really enjoying his time in Ghana.

From time to time, he keeps giving his followers on social media updates on what he has been up to in the country.

Today, he shared photos of himself enjoying a bowl of fufu with grass cutter — he revealed that this is his very first time eating the local bush meat.

He then went ahead to tell a story of how his country-men eat python meat and egg.

One thing he however said that has caused division on social media is the fact that he ate with his left hand because that’s his dominant hand.

In Ghana, it is a ‘taboo’ to eat with one’s left hand. It’s believed that it’s the left hand that does all the ‘dirty works’ (for example, it’s the left hand that we use to clean our backside when we visit the washroom) so it’s disgusting to put it inside the mouth.

Sharing the photos, Mr Gregory Andrews wrote:

“Thanks to my new friend Safura in Sunyani, I had my first bushmeat and first homemade-fufu all in one day! Safura made a delicious soup with grasscutter meat and smoked fish. And she served it with pounded fufu made of plantain and cassava.

In Indigenous Australia we call bushmeat ‘bush tucker’. My favourite bush tucker is python eggs. The python eggs are traditionally cooked inside the python. We eat the python meat too, but I only like the eggs. Python meat is a bit too stringy because it’s all rib cage.

Awkward: I’m left handed and I used the wrong hand to eat the fufu. Sorry about that.
