Gregory Newman Bortey with stage name King Promise in an interview with Mzgee on TV3 has revealed that he was the mastermind behind Medikal’s ‘Ayeeko’ hit song.
For him to say this is no surprise to many who have followed the Ghana music industry for a while. He went on to state that he wrote and finished the whole piece and sent it to Medikal to complement it with his rap.
” I wrote the lyrics of Ayeeko but he wrote his rap. I had the idea of the song and pitched it to him. We’ve always wanted to work together but Medikal has been busy and so have I. So when I wrote ‘Ayeeko’, I called him and told him I got the right song and he asked that I send it to him. He killed his part and that was it.”
When asked why then did Medikal come to own the song, the ‘Anadwo’ hitmaker said: ” Even if we were in the studio, I would’ve been the one who would have brought the idea or he may start so its the same thing.”
King Promise is known to write and produce songs for the likes of Adina, Efya, and others.
