You must hold the conviction that Allah alone is the creator of the universe and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final earthly messenger. If you recite this in the presence of two witnesses and are entirely serious, you will become a Muslim. That is all there is to it, really.

Arabic’s word for “forbidden” or “illegal” is haram. It is forbidden for Muslims to finance, acquire, or otherwise take part in business dealings involving commodities and activities that are off-limits, such as those involving pork, alcohol, gambling, and pornography. Haram is the complete opposite of halal.

 

Can you smoke in Islam?

A tobacco fatwa is a fatwa (Islamic legal declaration) that forbids Muslims from using tobacco. Although Saudi Arabia ranks 23rd in the world for the percentage of its population that smokes, Arab Muslims typically forbid it, and in South Asia, smoking is typically regarded as legal but frowned upon.
