Clela Rorex issued the first same-sex marriage license in the United States. Serving as the Boulder County Clerk, Rorex issued a marriage license to a gay couple in 1975 after receiving approval from the District Attorney
Born in 1943 at steamboat spring, colour, United States. Clela whose father’s name was not disclosed served as the Routt County, Colorado clerk for 30 years.
Clela Rorex attended the University of Colorado on a Methodist scholarship.
After graduating, she got married to a naval officer and went on to spend 3 years with him while he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before returning to Boulder.
Rorex worked in her father’s office during the summer season before deciding to run for Boulder county clerk when the incumbent, Henry Putnam, announced his retirement.
She was elected and took office in 1975 at age 31 and Putnam who did not want to vacate office was removed by the Sheriff’s office.

Clela Rorex cause of death

Clela Rorex passed away at the age of 78 on June 19, 2022. She died in Longmont, Colorado, Clela’s cause of death has not been disclosed.
