Colin Brian Blakemore was a British Neurobiologist at Oxford University and Warwick University specializing in vision and the development of the brain.

Colin Blakemore was best known as a communicator of science but also as a target of the long-running animal-right campaign.

Blakemore was born on June 1, 1944, at Stanford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. He was a patron of Humanists UK (formerly known as the British Humanists Association) and also an Honorary Associate of the Rationalist Association and National Secular Society.

He was honoured for his scientific achievements with prizes from many academies and societies.

Colin Blakemore passed away on June 27, 2022, at Sobell House Hospice, Oxford, England at the age of 78.

Colin Blakemore was married to Andree Elizabeth Washbourne and they had 3 children, Jessica Blakemore, Sophie Blakemore and Sarah-Jayne Blakemore.

Sarah-Jayne Blakemore is a professor of psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, she is also the co-director of the Wellcome Trust PhD Programme in Neuroscience at University College London.

Sarah-Jayne Blakemore was born on 11 August 1974. She was educated at Oxford High School and St John’s College, Oxford.

Blakemore has won lots of awards including, the British Psychological Society Doctoral Award (2001). Lecturer Award 2011 by the Swedish Neuropsychology Society and the Young Mind &Brain Prize from the University of Turin (2013).

The British Psychological Society awarded Blakemore the Presidents’ award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge in August 2018 which proves a lifetime membership to the society.

Blakemore has two children but their names are unknown.
