According to a law enforcement official, the suspect in the shooting that took place at Club Q on Saturday night apparently utilized an AR-15-style semiautomatic firearm. According to the official, who spoke to The Associated Press under the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share specifics of the inquiry, a handgun and more ammo magazines were also found.
According to Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, the assault was stopped when a bystander took the suspect’s gun and shot him. Suthers claims that when police arrived, the shooter was pinned down by the person who struck him. El Paso County’s district attorney, Michael Allen, stated that authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the attack and are determining whether or not a hate crime should be filed against those responsible. Police have named the suspect Anderson Lee Aldrich, and he is being held in custody as he receives wound care. In 2021, after his mother claimed he threatened her with “a homemade bomb, various guns, and ammo,” authorities detained a man with the same name and age.
