Just before midnight on Saturday, a 22-year-old gunman opened fire inside an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs before being stopped by clubgoers. On Sunday, authorities verified that he then began firing, resulting in at least five fatalities and 25 injuries.
We received the first call about a shooting at the Club Q nightclub at about 11:57 p.m., according to Colorado Springs Lieutenant Pamela Castro.
According to Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez on Sunday, the shooter, identified as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, entered the nightclub and immediately began firing using a “long rifle.”At least two heroic people inside the club approached and fought with the suspect and were able to stop the suspect from continuing to kill and harm others,” Vasquez said in a press conference.
A Facebook statement from Club Q, the scene of the attack, claimed: “devastated by the senseless attack on our community”. According to the authorities, a motive for the attack has not yet been determined.
