Deborah Fraser, a South African gospel singer, began her career as a backup singer in 1985.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lucky Dube, Brenda Fassie, Hugh Masekela, and Jonas Gwangwa all used the South African gospel musician as a backup vocalist.

 

She was born in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on June 9, 1965.

In the year 2000, Fraser released her own album, Abanye bayombona.

 

Over one million copies of the record have been sold worldwide.

She was eventually signed by Universal Music after the success of her first album.

Fraser’s ninth studio album, Uhambo, followed, featuring 14 songs and the smash track “Ngeke ngiyeke ukuthandaza.”

 

She also earned the first SABC Crown Gospel Music award winner in the Best Female Artist category.

 

Fraser has garnered numerous prizes for her efforts in the entertainment sector, including the SAMA award for best gospel, the Metro award for best gospel, and the Kora award for best gospel artist.

 

Deborah Fraser, in the meantime, died on May 15, 2022, at the age of 56.

 

At the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, she died of a stroke.

The Trinity International Bible University awarded Deborah Fraser a doctorate of philosophy in the holy space of music in October 2021.
