Dahmer was determined to be legally sane throughout his trial despite having a borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and a psychotic condition. He was found guilty of 15 of the 16 murders he committed in Wisconsin, and on February 17, 1992, he was sentenced to 15 terms of life in prison.
