Mickey Leroy Gilley was an American country music singer and songwriter. He was born on March 9, 1936, in Natchez, Mississippi. His parents were Arthur Fillmore Gilley (November 27,1897-February 2,1982) and Irene Gilley(September 11, 1900-August 14, 1985)

He was the cousin of a well-known rock and roll songwriter and musician in the 1950s and early 1960s, Jerry Lee Lewis. Lewis taught Gilley his piano style and they both played together. Gilley is known for the hit songs ”fall me short’ and ‘down the line’. He was also a licensed pilot and instrument rating with commercial privileges for multi-engine planes and private privileges for single-engine planes.

 

Gilley got married in 1953 to Geraldine Garrett who was the mother to three of his four children (Keith Ray, Micheal; and Kathy)

In July 2009, Gilley had an accident w3hile helping his neighbor and broke four vertebrates which left him temporarily paralyzed

 

When did Mickey Gilley die?

Gilley died Saturday, May 7, 2022, in Branson, Missouri, where he helped run the Shangai Grand theatre.
