Mickey Leroy Gilley was an American country music singer and composer who was born in the city of Natchez in the state of Mississippi. In the 1980s, he shifted to a more pop-friendly style, after beginning his career performing straight-up country and western material in the 1970s.

This boosted his popularity not only on the country charts but also on the mainstream charts. His biggest hits include “Room Full of Roses,” “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time,” and a cover of the Soul ballad “Stand by Me.”

Gilley had 42 singles in the top 40 on the US Country chart and was a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl McVoy, Jim Gilley, Sonny Gilley, and Jimmy Swaggart.
