Zacharias Mar Polycarpose Zacharias, former Metropolitan of the Malabar Diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Church, died of a heart attack at St. Mary’s Hospital in Manarkad, Kerala, at the age of 52. Puthenpalli is a parishioner of Kottayam St. Mary’s and a member of the Kochillam family.
St. Mary’s College, St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s English Medium and St. Paul’s English Medium School, and Aramia International Residential College are among the educational institutions on which he has served on the advisory board.
The metropolitan’s mortal remains will be held at Mannarkkad St Mary’s Cathedral for public adoration till 5 p.m. today. The body will subsequently be transported out in a procession to Kurichi St Mary’s Church, where an evening prayer will be held.
After the evening prayer, the mourning procession to St. Mary’s Church will commence. His Holiness Basilios Thomas I, Catholicos Bava, will preside over the burial ceremony on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
