Bob Barker, MY Sam Simon, Steve Irwin, and Sun Laurel were involved in a collision with the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru on February 20, 2013, in the Southern Ocean, north of Australia’s Casey Research Station in Antarctica.

Bob Barker was struck in the stern, and the bow of the Nisshin Maru knocked several of Bob Barker’s antennas down. When Bob Barker lost power, he sent out a mayday.
