As a result, it became the longest-running daytime game program. He was also the host of Truth or Consequences from 1956 until 1975, which made him well-known.
Barker joined the US Navy during World War II. He was born in Darrington, Washington, and grew up in humble circumstances. During his college years, he had a part-time radio job.
To pursue a career in broadcasting, he relocated to California in 1950. The Bob Barker Show, a six-year run of his own radio program, was awarded to him.
In 1956, he hosted Truth or Consequences to launch his game show career. He went on to host several game programs, the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants, and other events from 1967 to 1987, making him the longest-running host of those pageants. In 1972, he began presenting The Price Is Right.
