Williams Grand Prix Engineering has come a long way since Sir Frank Williams and Sir Patrick Head first drew up their plans for a brand-new Formula 1 racing team while standing in an abandoned old carpet mill.

They have since collected 114 victories, nine constructors’ championships, and seven driver’s championships.

Due to poor financial circumstances, they have found life in Formula One to be challenging recently and have dropped down the rankings, finishing last in the last few seasons.

Does Frank Williams still own Williams?

Williams has visited with a number of prospective investors over the past three months as part of a formal sale process and has subsequently examined presentations of interest.

They decided to proceed with Dorilton Capital, a private investment company based in the United States, whose portfolio comprises businesses in the industrial services, healthcare services, and speciality manufacturing sectors.

Although the name Williams is still on the company he does not own it again.

There has been a total buy-out. Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited (WGPE), which includes the F1 business (as well as their stunning collection of vintage cars and opulent headquarters at Grove), their minority investment in Williams Advanced Engineering, and all other commercial assets and liabilities, is being sold.
