Dyes can are produced from certain items, mainly flowers and plants. There are a set of basic color dyes which can then be turned into more combination ones. Each of the basic dyes has multiple substitutes for their ingredients meaning you won’t have to look for a specific ingredient (brown dye being the sole exception). You can also directly source dyes from traders and wandering traders in exchange for emeralds.

Crafting Dyes

White Dye

White dye is a very useful dye as it is mostly used to make combination colors later on. This dye can be crafted with two different ingredients, namely bone meal and lily of the valley. By placing either of them in the crafting grid you will be able to make white dye.

Black Dye

Black dye is also used to make a few combination color dyes later on as well. This dye can be crafted with two different ingredients, namely an ink sac or a wither rose. By using either of them you can craft a unit of black dye by placing them in a crafting grid.

Red Dye

The red dye, just like white dye is used for a number of different combination color recipes. To make red dye you can use a plethora of different ingredients. Poppies, red tulips, rose bushes, and beetroots are all able to produce a red dye. By placing either of them in the crafting grid a red dye will be made.

Yellow Dye

The yellow dye is used in a few combination color dye recipes much like black dye. This dye can be crafted with two different ingredients, namely dandelion or sunflower.

Both of these are flowers that the player can find in most plains quite easily. By placing either of them in the crafting grid you will have crafted a unit of yellow dye.

Blue Dye

The blue is the in the same boat as the red and white dye. It is used for a bunch of combination color dye recipes. Two ingredients can be used to craft blue dye, namely lapiz lazuli, and cornflower.

One is an ore that can be found underground the other is a flower that can be found in plains and forests easily. By placing either in a crafting grid you will be able to craft blue dye.

Brown Dye

The brown dye is the simplest and hardest dye to procure as it can only be made with the use of cocoa beans. By placing a cocoa bean in the crafting grid you can craft a unit of brown dye.

Pink Dye

The pink dye is the same as yellow and black as it is not used for a lot of combination color dye recipes. Its crafting recipe set it apart from other dyes, as it can either be made from a single ingredient or made by combining two different dyes.

To make pink dye from single ingredients you can use either a peony or a pink tulip. If don’t have those flowers you can also combine red and white dye to make pink dye. By placing either of the flowers or both the red and white dye in a crafting grid you will be able to craft pink dye.

Magenta Dye

The magenta dye is similar to the pink dye, it can be crafted with four different recipes. Let’s start with the simple one, by placing either allium or lilac in a crafting grid you can craft a unit of magenta dye. Now onto the combination ones, the first requires the use of pink, red and blue dyes.

By placing them in any pattern in the crafting grid you will be able to make 3 units of magenta dye. The next recipe requires you to use 2 units of red dye and one of blue and white. Similar to before, place them in any pattern in the crafting grid to make four units of magenta dye. Finally, the last recipe requires the use of pink and purple dye, one each.

Like before, just putting them into a crafting grid will give you 2 units of magenta dye. With the use of any of the above recipes, you will be able to craft magenta dye.

Light Gray Dye

This is also the same as magenta and pink dye, it has 3 different recipes through which it can be crafted. The first is with the use of flowers, namely the azure bluet, oxeye daisy, and white tulip. By placing either of them in the crafting grid you will be able to craft light gray dye.

The second recipe requires black and white dye, placing both of them anywhere in the crafting grid results in 2 units of light gray dye. The last recipe is similar to the second one but it requires gray and white dye, just like earlier placing them both will get you 2 units of light gray dye.

Gray Dye

The gray dye is one of the dye colors that can only be made by using other dyes. There are no flowers or plants of any sort that players can use to get this dye. You will need black and white dye in order to make gray dye, once both of them are placed in the crafting grid you will get 2 units of gray dye.

Orange Dye

The orange dye can be procured through 2 different recipes, the first involves the use of the orange tulip flower and the second involves mixing two other dyes. By placing an orange tulip in the crafting grid you will get a single unit of orange dye.

The second method requires you to use a unit each of red and yellow dye, by placing them in the crafting grid you will get 2 units of orange dye.

Light Blue Dye

The light blue dye is similar to the orange dye, meaning there are two different recipes to make it. The first includes the use of the blue orchid flower and the second involves the combination of blue and white dye.

By placing a blue orchid in the crafting grid you will have made a unit of light blue dye. Combining both white and blue dye on the crafting grid will give you 2 units of light blue dye instead of one.

Green Dye

Obtaining the green dye is quite different from the others as it involves using a furnace rather than using a crafting table. By smelting a block of cactus with any fuel source in a furnace you will be able to get one unit of green dye per block of cactus.

Lime Dye

Lime green is similar to gray dye in terms of the crafting process, that being two dyes need to be combined to make it. You cannot use any other items such as plants and flowers to make this color.

You will need to combine green and white dye to make lime green dye, by placing a unit of each in the crafting grid you will get 2 units of lime green dye.

Cyan Dye

The cyan dye is in the same boat as the lime green and gray dyes, it requires the player to combine the green and blue dye colors. There are no plants, items, or flowers that can be used to obtain cyan dye directly. By placing a single unit of green and blue dye anywhere on the crafting grid you will receive 2 units of cyan dye.

Purple Dye

The purple dye can only be crafted by combining two different dye colors. You will need blue and red dyes to make purple dye. By placing them both on the crafting grid you will receive 2 units of purple dye.
