Eduardo Bauta Galvez, a former baseball player who was born on January 6, 1935, in Cuba, has given up the sport.

He had 87 years on him. He pitched in 97 games for the St. Louis Cardinals (1960–1963) and the New York Mets (1963–1964) as a right-handed reliever in Major League Baseball.

Bauta was created in the Camagüey region of Cuba. 200 pounds and 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall were his listed measurements (91 kg).

Bauta played professionally for 14 seasons between 1956 and 1964, 1967 and 1969, and 1972 and 1973.

Both the Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates benefited from the transaction that brought him to them in May 1960. The Pirates received starting pitcher Vinegar Bend Mizell, who helped them win the 1960 National League title.

The Cardinals also acquired Bill Mazeroski, a future Baseball Hall of Famer who obstructed the second baseman Bauta’s rise to the majors, along with Bauta.

Young second baseman Julián Javier would play for the Cardinals for twelve seasons, make two National League All-Star teams, and help St. Louis win three pennants and two World Series.
