Roberts received a third Golden Globe nomination and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal as jail breaker Buck McGeehy in Runaway Train (1985).

He is Julia Roberts’s older brother.

Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts, two former performers and playwrights who met while touring with a performance of George Washington Slept for the military, had Eric Anthony Roberts on April 18, 1956, in Biloxi, Mississippi.
