Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei has intensified the campaign to suggest that Ghana needs a female president.

She added time is up for Ghana to have a shift from male presidents to a female president.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Charlotte Osei together with popular journalist Nana Aba Anamoah agreed to the notion as they celebrate International Women’s Day.

According to the TV anchor, “We have been ready for a long time [for a female president] and it’s not just Ghana.” Both women also bemoaned the fact that the two biggest political parties in Ghana have never fielded a female candidate or running mate.

There were rumors that President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2008 considered naming Alima Mahama as running mate but was reportedly prevailed upon by party functionaries to abandon the idea.

Uk has also had two female prime ministers in the persons of Madam Magaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

However, the US, which prides itself as an epitome of democracy is yet to get a female leader to occupy the White House.
