Reid is a Wiradjuri man who was raised on the Central Coast after being born in Darkinjung territory. Before enrolling at the University of Newcastle to study medicine, he attended Central Coast Grammar School and Umina Beach Public School. He earned his B.Med. there in 2016.
Reid used to be an emergency room doctor. He claimed that while working in the emergency room at Wyong Hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak, he was inspired to run for office as a result of seeing victims wait in pain for care. Reid will be one of six First Nations representatives in the Labor Caucus after his election in 2022. He plays the saxophone and speaks Indonesian.
