Previously, from 2019 until 2022, Shapps was the Johnson administration’s Secretary of State for Transportation. Since the general election of 2005, Shapps has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Welwyn Hatfield. Shapps is a member of the Conservative Party.
Shapps was named Minister of State for Housing and Local Government after David Cameron became Prime Minister. Grant Shapps was elevated to the Cabinet as the Chairman of the Conservative Party and a Minister without Portfolio during the 2012 cabinet reshuffle.
