Guye Adola Idemo, an Ethiopian half-marathon expert and long-distance runner, was born on October 20, 1990.
He began his training with Gianni Demadonna’s group after being raised in Adola, in Ethiopia’s Oromiya Region. His prominence increased in 2014. He participated in his first elite event in January of that year and won the Marrakech Half Marathon with a timing of 61:26. Then, he came in fourth place in Ethiopia’s national half-marathon championship.
Shortly thereafter, he made his international debut, and at the 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, he was Ethiopia’s best runner, taking home the individual bronze medal in 59:21 to assist the Ethiopian men in place third in the team race.
He competed on the circuit after earning his first significant medals and placed third at the Giro Media Blenio in Switzerland and the Luanda Half Marathon in Angola. He won the 2014 Delhi Half Marathon in New Delhi with a time of 59:06.
At the 2017 Berlin Marathon, he faced off against Eliud Kipchoge in his first-ever marathon competition, finishing in second place with the quickest debut time ever (2:03:46).
He took part in the men’s race at the 2020 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland.
In the 2021 Berlin Marathon’s men’s competition, he won.
