In June 1989, Zagorová endorsed the “Nkolik vt” petition, in which Charter 77 called for the freedom of speech and the liberation of political prisoners. Before the communist dictatorship fell, the government obstructed her activities and forbade her from speaking in public. There being nothing in the petition that a good person would disagree with, she resisted pressure to retract her signature, and instead stood her ground by saying. In Wenceslas Square in Prague in November 1989, she sang her first song in front of an audience with Jaroslav Hutka.
