One of America’s best-known sportscasters, Vincent Edward Scully, died in 2013. There were two dates in his life: November 29, 1927 (the day he was born), and 2 August 2022.

From 1950 (when the team was based in Brooklyn) until 2016, he served as the Los Angeles Dodgers play-by-play announcer, a position he held until his death in 2016. As the longest-serving Major League Baseball announcer, he set a record.

To date, no announcer has spent more time with a single team than Scully, who was second only to Tommy Lasorda (by two years) in terms of years spent with the Dodgers organization.

In 2016, at the age of 88, he stepped down as the team’s play-by-play commentator, concluding a record-breaking stint.

Scully announced most Dodgers home games (and some select road games) on SportsNet LA and KLAC radio in his final season as a broadcaster.

For his unusual voice, lyrically descriptive style, and signature introduction to Dodgers games, he was widely recognized.

In addition to calling games for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, Vin Scully worked for CBS Sports from 1975 until 1982, announcing a variety of football and golf competitions on national television.

From 1983 until 1989, he was the lead baseball play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports. In addition, from 1979 until 1982 and then again from 1990 until 1997, he was the voice of the World Series on CBS Radio.
